Thousands of volunteers are gathering in Charlotte, North Carolina, to help build 23 homes for the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

Among the volunteers were country superstars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

The stars took over as ambassadors for the project and stressed the importance of lending a hand to help families.

“President Carter believed, as long as there’s one person on this planet without a roof over their head, Habitat’s job is not done,” said Trisha. “I have to agree with that.”

This project is worth $10.6 million and will be called The Meadows at Plato Place, after the all-black grade school that was once there.
