Huge congratulations to Dallas Smith on scoring his 10th #1 hit on the Billboard Canada Country National Airplay chart with his current single, “Like a Man.” The chart is released weekly on Wednesdays. It’s also his 9th consecutive #1 hit on the chart, which began publishing in January 2013.

That’s a couple of the personal stats Dallas has achieved with his new #1. Here are a few more personal and professional stats:

-Dallas has more #1 hits on the chart than any other Canadian artist – Dean Brody and Mackenzie Porter are next at 3 #1’s each;

-Dallas’ 10 chart-toppers puts him at third on the list of artists with the most #1’s – only 4 American acts have more…Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett are in second spot with a dozen each, while Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton are tied for the most #1’s at 14 each;

-because some songs stay at the top for more than one week, the total number of weeks an artist has spent at #1 is another barometer; Dallas has now spent a total of 11 weeks at #1 – “Wastin’ Gas” (his 1st #1 hit, BTW, in 2015) is his only single to spend more than 1 week at the top…it was there for 2 consecutive weeks;

-on the list of total number of weeks an artist has spent at #1, Dallas ranks at no. 8 (with a total of 11 weeks – but he is the Canadian artist with the most total weeks at #1), Blake Shelton holds the record having spent a total of 40 weeks at #1 since the chart began;

-Dallas replaces High Valley’s “Grew Up on That” at #1, the third time this year a Canadian act has replaced another Canadian act at the top spot;

-Dallas is the only Canadian artist to have a #1 hit every year since 2015; he was the first Canadian artist to have two #1 hits in the same year and has done so every year since 2017; he’s the only Canadian artist to have two #1 hits so far this year;

-“Like a Man” is the 11th song by a Canadian artist to reach #1 this year; the record for most Canadian songs to reach #1 is 12 and that was set last year.

Now, to put Dallas’ achievement in historical context. Before the Billboard chart, RPM Magazine published a weekly chart in Canada from 1964 until the trade magazine ceased publication in late 2000. Note: those charts have been archived, but some charts are missing from the archives.

-Charlie Major scored 10 #1 hits during the RPM years, the same number Dallas has now reached on the Billboard chart;

-while Terri Clark scored four #1’s during the RPM years and Paul Brandt had six chart-toppers, they may well have achieved more if RPM hadn’t stopped publishing in 2000;

-during the RPM years, Shania Twain had 13 #1 hits, Carroll Baker accumulated 14 chart-toppers and Anne Murray reached the top with 23 singles;

-so, that means Dallas and Charlie are tied for the record of the Canadian solo male artist with the most #1’s at ten each.

While I’m sure Dallas has already celebrated his new #1 with “Like a Man,” he has many, many more reasons to celebrate! Congrats, bud!
