Effective immediately, Norfolk County is lifting its temporary restrictions on the burning of yard waste, originally ordered March 24.

The restrictions had been put in place to reduce the number of non-emergency calls to the Fire Department, keeping as many firefighters available for service during the pandemic as possible.

The lifting of the restrictions means residents with a burn permit are once again able to burn yard waste such as leaves, branches and grass, so long as they are in compliance with Norfolk County’s Fire Setting Bylaw.

“On behalf of the Norfolk County Fire Department, I would like to say thank-you to the residents of Norfolk for their co-operation in refraining from burning yard waste over the last number of weeks,” said Fire Chief Gord Stilwell. “The public’s assistance has reduced the number of calls for service and allowed Norfolk County firefighters to limit their exposure to the coronavirus.”

For more information on obtaining or renewing a burn permit call 519-426-5870 ext. 2200 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
