A new Covid-19 active case in Tillsonburg now has the town with a dubious distinction. From today’s data release from Southwestern Public Health, it appears the total number of active cases was going down on the weekend while Tillsonburg, as of Monday morning, went the other way with a new case, bringing the town’s total to four. And Tillsonburg, with a population of about 16,000, now has more active cases than Woodstock, with their population of about 41,000. Tillsonburg also now has more cases of the virus than any other municipality in Oxford County.

Southwestern Public Health covers Oxford and Elgin counties and the city of St. Thomas. The total number of cases went down from 22 on Friday to 17 on Sunday, but has risen to 19 today. Elgin County, with a total of 7 active cases, saw no change at all in their stats since Friday. As it stands now, St. Thomas still has 4 cases, with 1 each in Aylmer, Dutton/Dunwich and Malahide.

Oxford County began Friday with 15 active cases, which dropped to 10 on Sunday, but has now climbed to 12 as of today. Tillsonburg has 4 total cases. Woodstock dropped from 5 to 3. Blandford-Blenheim dropped to a single case during the weekend, but is back with a new active case to bring their total to 2. Since Friday, Ingersoll and East Zorra-Tavistock have resolved their single cases. Norwich, Southwest Oxford and Zorra have shown no change, each with 1 case.

Despite today’s new reported cases in Tillsonburg and Blandford-Blenheim, it should be remembered the total number of active cases of the coronavirus in the area covered by Southwestern Public Health has dropped since Friday, and has dropped since yesterday.

And Southwestern Public Health has added a new chart to their website dashboard of information. This new chart shows the number of test results received against the percentage of positive cases. It shows the percentage in the area is low, low being expressed in a number of 5 percent or lower, with the actual percentage just over 2 percent.
