As of this morning (Monday), the number of cases of the coronavirus has grown over the weekend.

Southwestern Public Health, which covers Oxford County, Elgin County and the city of St. Thomas, reports a total of eight cases: six in Elgin County and two in Oxford County.

The first Oxford County case, a male in his 30’s, has since been resolved, the only resolution reported among the eight cases. The other Oxford County case involves a male in his 70’s who contracted the virus while travelling and is currently being treated in hospital.

Elgin County bears the brunt of the pandemic with six of the eight cases. The first victim, a male in his 30’s, continues to be treated in hospital just over a week after his case was first confirmed. An Elgin County female in her 30’s continues to self-isolate as does another Elgin County woman in her 60’s. Half of the total cases involve individuals in their 70’s or older. All of these older people with the virus, including a woman in her 90’s, are being treated in hospital. One of them, a male in his 70’s, is in hospital awaiting test results.
