At 1:00 p.m., the Mayor of Alymer – Mary French – declared a State of Emergency for the Town in relation to COVID-19. This declaration was made through consultation with the Emergency Operations Control Group and was guided by the Town of Aylmer Emergency Management Plan.

The four primary reasons for declaring this State of Emergency are as follows:

o It protects Volunteers;
o It further protects Staff and Elected Officials from litigious situations that
could arise as a result of the emergency;
o It assists with applying or receiving any availability of funding that may come
as a result of the emergency and provides private citizens more flexibility
with claims that come about during the designated emergency timeline;
o Most importantly, it conveys the seriousness of the circumstance to
residents of the Municipality and creates awareness to other levels of
Government and Officials that are willing to assist.

All non-essential Town programs and services remain cancelled. Town Hall remains closed to the public until further notice. This includes the closure of all
recreational facilities and related programming. All essential Town services continue operations. Safety precautions as recommended by Southwestern Public Health have been implemented to ensure the safety and continuity of these services.

For non-urgent public health related information regarding COVID-19, residents are encouraged to visit www.swpublichhealth.ca or call Southwestern Public
Health at 519-631-9900. As the Town continues to monitor and respond to the COVID-19 issue, specific municipal updates will be posted on www.aylmer.ca on a regular basis under the “COVID-19 COROAVIRUS INFORMATION” tab. If you require this information in an alternative format call the municipal office at 519-773-3164 during regular business hours or email jbrick@town.aylmer.on.ca.
