And the hits keep coming to local manufacturers.

Employees at the Firestone plant in Woodstock were informed the facility will be closing next year in a 10 minute emergence meeting this morning.

In a press release, the parent company of Firestone Woodstock; Bridgestone America's Incorporated CEO Bill Thompson, offered the old chestnut about increased global competition and difficult market conditions as the contributing factors to the closing.

The release goes on to say in addition to severance packages, the company will work with the union to figure out how best to support the 35 salaried and 135 hourly workers affected.

The closure will take place in phases with the first round coming December 31st with operations completely ceasing in the back half of 2018.

The Woodstock plant has been in operation since 1936.
