The Party of Peter Lougheed and Ralph Klein may be no more.
Progressive Conservatives in Alberta have elected former Stephen Harper cabinet minister Jason Kenney their new leader. He garnered three times more votes that his two opponents combined. During the leadership campaign Kenney vowed to have the Conservatives merge with the Wildrose Party so there would be a common right wing front against the ruling New Democrats.
Conservatives in the province rejected the merger notion last spring. They prefer to rebuild the party that led Alberta for almost 40 years. (bd)
