Haldimand-Norfolk Liberal party faithful turned out in droves to hear federal leader Michael Ignatieff appeal for former MP's Bob Speller's return to parliament.Ignatieff had the crowd of 300 fired up during yesterday's event at the Hagersville-area farm of Neil and Elsie Eubank and his rural-farm themed speech was interrupted several times by applause.
Ignatieff took aim at Conservative MP Diane Finley over Caledonia and says it's unacceptable the present member continues to ignore the situation and allows it to fester.
Ignatieff is proposing mediation with time limits to allow the parties to resolve the land claims dispute, which is four-and-a-half years old.
Speller, the former agriculture minister who represented the riding from 1988 to 2004, noted Ignatieff has visited Haldimand-Norfolk three times, and on previous visits has met with farmers, steelworkers from Nanticoke, townsfolk affected by the situation in Caledonia as well as leadership at Six Nations.
