Ontario horse farmers and their supporters are urging the governing Liberals to keep an agreement that gives them a share of racetrack slot revenues.
The group says scrapping the deal would be unfair because horse farmers' survival depends on their portion of the revenues.
The cash-strapped government has signalled that it may withdraw the Ontario horse racing industry's $345-million annual share of slot machine revenues.
The Liberals now refer to the money as a subsidy, rather than a share of the slot revenues.
Economist Don Drummond recommended that the province review the deal in his report on what measures the Liberals must take to slay the deficit by 2017-18.
According to the government, Ontario slots take in $1.7 billion a year and 20 per cent of it goes to racetrack operators and local horse people.
