Unlike Norfolk County and Tillsonburg, the County of Elgin will not receive provincial funding to undertake a public transit pilot project. Elgin had applied for a $480,000 community transportation grant as it has no access to fixed route transportation in the county. The five-year grants are designed to help municipalities investigate public transportation options. At a council meeting last month, Elgin Warden Dave Marr noted transportation always comes up in meetings with upper tier government. A report will come to council for its May 22 meeting. Norfolk will receive $765,000 in funding to expand the Ride Norfolk service to link Simcoe with Brantford. And Tillsonburg received funding to connect with Ride Norfolk service.
