John Dunsworth, who played Jim Lahey in “Trailer Park Boys,” has died at the age of 71.

The Bridgewater, Nova Scotia native portrayed a frequently drunk former police officer turned trailer park supervisor.

Numerous online tributes called Dunsworth a brilliant actor with a warm heart who was involved in community theatre for decades.

A cause of death wasn't announcement, but a statement posted on Twitter said he died after a “short and unexpected illness.”

Mike Smith, known as Bubbles on the “Trailer Park Boys,” tweeted that he is “beyond devastated” and called Dunsworth a beautiful, brilliant and fascinating man.

Actor Bernard Robichaud, who portrays Cyrus on the show, called Dunsworth a Canadian icon, while “Trailer Park Boys” director Mike Clattenburg said via Instagram that Dunsworth's “wild passion for acting was matched by his love of life and family.”

Members of legendary Canadian rock band Rush, who appeared as guest stars on the television show, posted a message on Twitter saying it was “heartbreaking” to hear of Dunsworth's death.

American comedian Tom Arnold also expressed his sympathies, saying Dunsworth was one of the “most brilliant actors” he's had the honour to work with.

Dunsworth was also known for playing reporter Dave Teagues on the supernatural drama series, “Haven.”
