Premier Kathleen Wynne will be making visits along the 401 corridor today, starting in London and is expected to make a major transit announcement.

The CBC is reporting the premier will lay out plans for high speed rail running between Windsor and Toronto, via Kitchener and Guelph.

Multiple reports say the 350 kilometer link is will use existing and new rail lines for the high speed trains that could travel at up to 250 kilometers an hour.

Cost of the project is an estimated 55-million dollars per kilometer or about $19 billion. Part of today's announcement is expected to include $15 million for a comprehensive environmental assessment.

High speed rail was first proposed by the liberals in 2014 with a promise to have, at least a portion of the system, up and running in a decade.
