London city council approved to put $1.6 million dollars towards affordable housing Tuesday.

The money comes from a $4.6 million dollar budget surplus, and coming from that surplus $3 million will be put toward demolishing =Lorne Avenue public school.

While the rest of that money will go towards affordable housing, councilor Josh Morgan called on council to set aside the funds until city staff can report back on various housing and homelessness programs.

The money will go towards building more units to keep them at below market rates.
