Woodstock Police Chief Rod Freeman supports a minimum 5 year term for criminals convicted of kidnapping a child under sixteen.

Freeman will add his voice in support of Bill C-299 tomorrow in Ottawa before the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

Unless a firearm or organized crime is involved, Freeman says there no currently no minimum jail sentence when a child under 16 is abducted and when the offender is a stranger to the victim.

Freeman says given the community's tragic experience of having Victoria Stafford ripped from her family by two now convicted killers, he hopes will be to make even a small contribution to deterring any stranger kidnapping a child under 16.
