Either the thieves knew what they were doing, or they were incredibly lucky, because it was a robbery that did not turn into a sting operation.

Huron County OPP are investigating the theft of seven beehives from a farm north of Goderich. The police think the robbery occurred at night when the bees are less active. Because the delicate touch needed to handle the hives, police also feel the thieves knew what they were doing and may work as apiarists. They place the value of the hives at $2,100. (bd)

The weather the end of this week may have made it a little chilly to be on the water, but that didn't stop Emergency from having to test out their water rescue skills.

Residents of Port Rowan called the OPP early Thursday afternoon after hearing cries for help from Long Point Bay.

A windsurfer had struck a sand bar and became stuck causing his sail to collapse. Wisely, according to police, he stayed in place until help arrived. The 30 year old male was rescued by a Canadian Coast Guard vessel and a private water craft.

The windsurfer was not injured and police said he was smart enough not to try and wade to shore because of the cold water and the shfting bottom of Lake Erie which means he could have been ankle deep in water one moment and dropping into a 20 foot gorge the next. (bd)
